EPR IMPLEMENTATION

The E-Waste Rules of 2022 have introduced the concept of 'Extended Producer Responsibility' (EPR), which mandates all electrical equipment producers to assume responsibility for their products throughout their entire lifecycle, from production to their eventual disposal or end-of-life stage. In order to comply with this system, producers must establish a take-back mechanism or set up collection centers, or in some cases, both measures may be implemented.

Furthermore, to ensure proper handling and disposal, all producers are obligated to obtain EPR authorization from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), which ensures the proper channelization of electronic waste to authorized dismantlers or recyclers. This move aims to foster a more sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to managing electronic waste in the country.
